’m not much of one for bio’s, I’d much rather let my work tell you about me. I think that who I am and how I see things is reflected in my photographs. On the other hand, it’s nice to know a few facts about who you might be working with, so here are some details.
I was born in England, grew up in various countries, and eventually landed in New York. I had the good fortune to study photography with a whole lot of talented and generous teachers and got most of my practical work experience by traveling around the world, photographing wherever and whenever I could, and spending many hours in the darkroom. I consider myself very lucky to have been earning my living doing something I love for more than twenty years now.
As to style, I think that the photographs of a wedding should be an actual representation of the day. Weddings are complicated and they are marvelous. Your photographs should reflect this truth as well as document all that is unique and beautiful about your particular event. As a photographer I am there to observe and to record, but not to direct the day in any way – unless you tell me your family or wedding party needs just a little direction!
I recently wrote a book about my work as a wedding photographer, and it pretty much sums it all up: it is
crazy, fascinating, stressful, and gloriously challenging work. I enjoy every minute of it!
I live in San Francisco with my husband and daughter. When we’re not all busy with our own pursuits, we are happiest spending time together. We try to always remember that life is short, precious, and full of possibility so we’d better pay attention. That's the way I approach the events I photograph as well.
Cheers,
Claire
